Michał Bohdankiewicz

About

Michał Bohdankiewicz approaches painting as an act of sustained discovery rather than execution. His works unfold in the charged space between intention and surrender, where control yields to presence and attentiveness. Rooted in the fundamental qualities of painting — material, color, gesture — his canvases resist linguistic closure and conceptual categorization. Instead of illustrating ideas, they generate experiences that are immediate and visceral, remaining open fields of encounter rather than predetermined statements.

Michał Bohdankiewicz’s practice centers on painting as a space of presence, attention, and trace. He approaches the
canvas as a field of synthesis where opposing qualities can coexist: form and dissolution,
corporeality and transience, control and chance. He is interested in how painting can hold these
contradictions, not by resolving them, but by allowing them to resonate together.
His ongoing Spoor series (from the word meaning “the trace left by a wild animal”) continues this
exploration, treating painting as a trace of presence – open, resonant, and suspended between
form and dissolution.’
